About

Hi! My name is Mike. I’m a 34 year old husband and father, and I live in Maryland, USA. During the day I work in tech, but I’ve always had a passion for personal finance and investing, so this website is my outlet for that hobby.

I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but you are going to die. Like the Bible says, you are a mist that appears for a little while, then vanishes. With that in mind: how do we strike a balance between being smart with our money, while at the same time not forgetting to LIVE in the here and now?

The goal of Proverbial Dollar is to encourage its readers to find that balance. Many (or dare I say most) financial sites encourage people to take extreme measures in order to be financially successful. Extreme budgeting, extreme saving, retiring early, etc. The problem is – oftentimes when we take those extreme measures, we forget to enjoy the here and now. I know I do.  We want to be wise with our money, but tomorrow isn’t guaranteed, so let’s try to find a balance!

While pursuing this goal, let’s start by erasing the word “perfection” from our vocabulary. No one will ever achieve a perfect balance. And what looks balanced for one person may be unbalanced to the next. But just because we can’t be perfect doesn’t mean we should give up before we even begin.
